The Feast of Epiphany
Tuesday, January 12th, 2016
Epiphany is such a wonderful season to help one transition from Christmas into January and remaining winter months. I was looking forward to it this year but since we’ve moved, I wasn’t sure if it would mean our traditional amount of feasting with friends.
And because it fell on a Wednesday this year I knew if we did feast, it wouldn’t be on the 6th. I originally thought I’d just put together a big meal to celebrate this festival as a family. After all, we are in such a small house right now and it would be short notice to invite any other families.
But the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to try to do what we’ve enjoyed in previous years. For me it’s a lot easier to make a big deal out of Epiphany than Christmas. It’s a less busy time of year, not hectic but still of the spirit of Christmas. I have so much fun with this Feast.
Preparing for Christmas
Wednesday, December 23rd, 2015
The last days of Advent are here. Christmas is at the door and as exciting as it is, I feel the crushing weight of Christmas preparation. I strive to keep up with the daily as I long to prepare ahead of time what I want to have done for Christmas.
Freezer meals during Advent isn’t going to happen, the baking to have ready to enjoy Christmas day, probably not going to happen either.
But I so wanted the decorations ready to go cuz that’s the fun part of preparing. I keep saying, I’ll get them done just after I sweep up this mess.
Wash the kids clothes.
And deal with this house! Well, it’s not all going to get done before, so I try to do a bit of the Christmas fun and preparations in between all the not so fun parts.
Advent At The Rental
Wednesday, December 16th, 2015
“The night will soon be ending, the dawn can not be far.” These words repeat in my mind this Advent season. I’m sure we all feel the same, that these days we live in seem dark and are becoming darker.
Perhaps that is why Advent becomes more dear to me each year with it’s focus on the dawn that is coming.
Oh, brighter than that glorious morn
Shall dawn upon our race
The day when Christ in splendor comes
And we shall see his face.
