“The night will soon be ending, the dawn can not be far.” These words repeat in my mind this Advent season. I’m sure we all feel the same, that these days we live in seem darkĀ and are becoming darker.
Perhaps that is why Advent becomes more dear to me each year with it’s focus on the dawn that is coming.
Oh, brighter than that glorious morn
Shall dawn upon our race
The day when Christ in splendor comes
And we shall see his face.
And while we wait for Christ to come again we rejoice that He came already for us.
I’ve found it easier some how this year to hold off on Christmas. Maybe because we’ve been so busy, maybe because much of our Christmas decor is still in storage. But we’ve kept the house bare of greenery other than our wreath and bare of many other signs of Christmas. I’m not patting myself on the back! It’s just been different this year.
And I find that I feel giddy when I start to think about the preparations that come with Christmas. Wrapping some gifts, the little bit of baking I’ll try to do, adding some greens to the house, hanging our stockings. I get so excited about it and I like that. So I keep it all put away a little longer to enjoy that anticipation.
But it’s coming fast so I’d better start soon right?!
The babies empty our Advent Calendar each morning and are leaving the doors open so they can see how much longer they have to wait.
Each door hides a small piece of candy and occasionally a trinket or note to “look in the Advent wreath” for that day’s treat.
Target has some lovely wooden toys in their $1 aisles right now. I snagged a Jacob’s Ladder for the day we read of Jacob’s dream during our devotion. (Um, which we didn’t get to that night. Bad day. That’s all I’ll say.)
Blessed Advent to you all!
That is a cool Advent calendar. Where did you find such a thing?
I love your manger scene – very creative!
