“Alleluia cannot always be our song
while here below;
Alleluia our transgressions
make us for a while forgo;
for the solemn time is coming
when our tears for sin must flow.”

We’re three days into Lent. I don’t have any plans for this year other than to continue in our family Bible Times and attending church services on some Wednesday nights. Oh and I will start reading Luther’s Large Catechism.

As we sang the line above this past Sunday morning, the Transfiguration of our Lord Sunday. I was struck with the one thing this season of Lent is particularly good for. Tears.

My flesh doesn’t like thinking on the fact that my sins are legion and my sins required Christ’s blood. Lent makes my flesh think about that or at least it provides the additional opportunity for it when I otherwise would just assume keep piddling along in my days.

I’m thankful for this solemn time. I will try to use it. I will try to mark our home with these reminders that our tears for sin must flow. That our Alleluias for a while we will forgo. That’s the only plan I have this year. I’m not sure how that will look but that’s all I’ve got.

    Cutting onions is a perfect way to bring on the tears.

    Reading through the Large Catechism is such a good practice, too.

    God bless our solemn-ness during this time of repentance.

    It’s okay, Aubri. So many times all I’ve got turns out to be so much more than I ever realized.

  3. Aubri says:

    Ha! YES Kristi! Would you believe that wasn’t even intentional?! Perfect.

    Thank you Rebekah. ♥
