January 6th, the Feast of Epiphany. This year we hosted some of our fellow “pastor family friends.” 6 grown ups and 13 kiddos in the house!
Some King Bling for the kiddie tables. We were being faincy.
These two have always looked so similar to me. Couldn’t they be sisters?
Rum Cake with trinkets (though I couldn’t get my stars to stand as nice as hers…next year, bigger cake stand!) I added 8 items to the cake this year to give everyone a chance to find something.
Clara found a button. I made up my own meanings for the trinkets. The button meant that this year Clara will to be “More Industrious.” Also included were a:
Quarter: Increased Wealth
Ring: A Special Blessing
Jewel: Increased Wisom
Guitar Pick: Improve a Talent or Skill
Clam Shell: Blessed and Kept in Baptismal Grace
Thimble: Increased Love for Others
And of course the Baby Jesus for King or Queen of the night!
Since it was pastor Seymour’s birthday I kind of thought he should be the one crowned and slid the winning piece of cake over his way. And really who could resist since there is an uncanny resemblance to King Henry VIII here.
Before everyone left the growns did some singin’ and prayin’. Um yes we did use the childrens’ hymnals.
We have been greatly blessed with good friends that are willing to drag their babies out onΒ a cold cold night and make the drive our way for much needed fellowship and mutual consolation. I often joke that as a pastor’s wife one of my mottos is “Want friends Will travel.” 30 minutes, a couple hours or more to get to friends houses has become normal for us. Not always easy, but always worth it.
Blessed Epiphany-tide to you all!
Looks like you guys had a good time. I’d never heard of king’s cake until this year. Love the singin and prayin.
Awesome! You go for hosting and for gathering friends! What a gift to them. And we will travel…how far is it to you? π
Rebekah, this is a fun feast and at a time of the year when it seems folks are more available to actually get together to feast! Lots of ways to do a king’s cake, we used to do a monkey bread one, but this Rum cake is too good to not make it a keeper. Though for some reason Clara and I are the ones that end up eating most of it….
Emily, ANY time y’all are in the NE neighborhood swing on by!! π
I wish we lived nearby. You look good at hosting and I am good at eating π (esp. rum cake)
