Epiphany At The Parsonage

January 8th, 2013 by Aubri

Sunday we celebrated the beginning of the Season of Epiphany, the “Gentile’s Christmas”. As the words of Simeon ran through my mind, I hung our stars, stretched out our kitchen table and we had an Epiphany feast!

Some of our guests for the evening.

On the menu: Honey Smoked Ham, Honey Glazed Carrots, Scalloped Potato Gratin, Green Salad, Kraft Mac-N-Cheese for Lily and of course our Kings’ Cake made with this delicious Monkey Bread recipe.

Baby Jesus was hiding in the cake before he was placed in this tablecloth stable.

Clara found him lying on a soft bed of cinnamon sugar delight and was crowned Queen for the night!

I’m reading through the Epiphany hymns in our service book looking for one to learn this season, they’re wonderful.

From the hymn, As with Gladness Men of Old:

Holy Jesus, everyday keep us in the narrow way; And when earthly things are past, Bring our ransomed souls at last where they need no star to guide, where no clouds Thy glory hide.

In the heav’nly country bright need they no created light; Thou its light, its joy, its crown, Thou its sun which goes not down; there forever may we sing Alleluias to our King.

Happy Epiphany to you all!
