Our Twelve Days

January 5th, 2013 by Aubri

I’m spacing out as I try to write a recap on our Christmas. I’ll say, it was the best of times it was the worst of times. Opening gifts each morning is fun but it does mean that you have “Christmas mess” all over the floor for twelve days instead of one! So of course I found myself having a lot of “Martha moments“, but each year I learn to simplify a bit more and let what is just be.

My babies are all at a very hard age in life, for them and for me. The meltdowns were epic over the last few weeks and there was much much fighting over peppermint playdough, the cookie cutters and gingerbread house candies, (it turns out 2, 3 and 4 year olds aren’t good at sharing and taking turns!) but we got through it and eked out some good memories.

I’m realizing that it does get better (…and worse at the same time however that is possible). The littles become the bigs and I can see that one day I may actually get to have fun (and relax…ha!) instead of “training” the babies to have fun.

A comment someone made several weeks ago about the “one thing needful” during this time really stuck with me through the past month. I can fill our house with a lot of Christmas fun but to what end? If I’m a mess and He is not the focus then I’ve failed big…hmm, I failed big a lot. But that’s why Baby Jesus came isn’t it? Thanks be to God.

Tonight we prepare for the Season of Epiphany which begins tomorrow. Our minds, having been blessed with the wonder of God’s Humanity will now ponder His divinity.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

What a great job you did to keep Christmas “alive” for all twelve days because the world has already moved on to the next thing. It is a blessed challenge to keep Christmas in front of our children. Thanks for reminding us that they don’t all have to be “Martha” moments. Now we look forward to Epiphany!

Ephraim is really handsome; entire family is.

What a blessing to have this documented history of your sweet family – and it won’t be long before you’ll be able to see this video like we do…without all the meltdowns that happened in between these great pictures. Thanks for taking the time to invest in special moments like these and for taking even more time to share them with the rest of us!
