Celebrating this day is becoming a favorite tradition at our house.
Last night shoes were set out for treats. We gave the babies new books for St. Nicholas day and of course some little bags of gold!
Goody bags for Lily to take to school for her teachers.
Today I made St. Nicholas gingerbread cookies. I really wanted one of these cookie cutters this year but paying $12 I’ll admit was a bit silly. I bought a gingerbread man cutter at Hobby Lobby for $.75, Phil took his plyers to it et voila! Bishop Nicholas.
Lily is a little under the weather so we sat on the couch to eat our cookies and read our new books.
And may I just point out those amazing lashes Gerhardt has…

Happy St. Nicholas day!
Nice cookie cutter remake!
Those ARE amazing lashes. I love how you put the kids’ shoes out, just as was done in St. Nicholas’ day.
We’ve often considered doing our family gift exchange on this day instead of Christmas Eve. We haven’t gone through with it yet, probably because that would force us to do our Christmas shopping earlier.
And may I say that you are SOOOOOOOO creative with the cookies.
That Philip is a wonder isn’t he! The cookies are so cute! I love seeing those little shoes set out like that! I’m also glad there was no coal left….
Phil’s engineering degree really comes in handy sometimes doesn’t it! Coal…there’s always next year.
Kristi, I like the idea of giving gifts on the 6th, that would take some of the pressure off later in the month for a lot of people. We decided that we’ll give our kiddos about 3 gifts, one on St. Nicholas day, one on Christmas day and one on Epiphany, that gives us time to savor and spreading them out will hopefully diffuse some of the “gimme-ness” of Christmas. I really don’t want that to be the focus.
