Last week we had our first “real” snow. We’ve gotten some flurries here and there over the past couple months, but this time the snow stuck around long enough for the babies to enjoy it for way longer than I should have let them. But it was a warm 7 degrees outside and all moms know that some frost bite is good for you.

Our St. Martin’s Day

Thank you all for your sweet comments and emails about our tiny Mercy. She’s such a precious little snippet. I promise to have more pictures of her here for all to gush over soon!

Monday we celebrated St. Martin’s day. It was fun to go on our lantern walk last year, but with it being terribly terribly cold that night and with me being terribly terribly tired, we skipped that this year, stayed in and enjoyed the warmth.

I love these Almond Horn cookies I like to make on St. Martin’s day and looked forward to them all year. They weren’t pretty, I’m sure that’s why you cover them with powdered sugar, but they were quite tasty.

Mercy’s New Life

Sunday Mercy was baptized. Phil lets me chose the hymn we’d sing that day, a perk of being Pastor’s wife!

The hymn I chose was See This Wonder in the Making, a sweet simple hymn with a line I loved:

Miracle each time it happens, As the door to heaven opens
And the Father beams, “Beloved, Heir of gifts a king would covet!”

The miracle of rebirth offered again and again on sinners is a wonder. Baptisms never get old. Over and over again God lavishes His love and forgiveness on sinners and we get to see it happen.

This line also made me think of the wonder that each baby we have is. Six times we’ve been blessed with a new life and it never ceases to amaze me, the miracle that these babies are. A miracle each time it happens.

We open our worthless arms to another child and offer our meager thanks to a loving Father who has given our sweet tiny Mercy new life.

Here we bring a child of nature, Home we take a newborn creature,
Now God’s precious son or daughter, Born again by Word and water.”
