Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas.
The girls remembered that the night before St. Nicholas Day we leave our shoes out and in the morning there’s candy inside them! They were so excited.
I get excited about this Feast day too. We’re beginning to use it as a day to give some simple “Christmas” gifts. By doing this we’ll be taking some of the focus of presents off of Christmas day.
This year chapstick and new robes for the big girls, crayons and pajamas for the littles.
As our babies grow I want this to also be a day we focus more on being generous to others as it is said St. Nicholas was.
A couple ideas I’ve come across are using this day to take toys, books, or coats to a shelter or local collection place for those without or on this day to announce a “giving project” that we will take on as a family, secretly (or not secretly) leave goodie bags at our nieghbors’ houses
We also had a breakfast feast which I had to get up early to prepare in time for Lily to have a bit before school. We just had eggs, clementines and biscuits but other nice ideas would be; peppermint hot chocolate and this Candy Cane shaped coffee cake.
Simple Mom had a good post on celebrating this feast day with some details on how it came about, resources, books for kids, and simple ways to observe it.

What do you do for St. Nicholas Day?
