July 4th

Sunday, July 8th, 2012

This is late, but here’s what we did. We started the day as we did last year, with a morning 3 mile race for Phil. He had a full stroller this year and did a great job! We played around the park and for a hot summer day it was surprisingly very pleasant. I didn’t want to go home. We lunched then headed to the homestead for early naps.

We decorated with some of our beautiful handmade decor, ate an “easy on Mama” supper of chips and brats, then came the firecrackers!

I know there are way too many slide shows flying around on this blog, but allow me one more…for now. So many pictures, it’s just easier to squeeze them into one place right? Here’s our big Independence Day celebration:

Music: Renee and Jeremy

After the babies were in bed Phil and I enjoyed fireworks from our porch and living room. It’s quite nice to live where the neighbors blow $500 on pyrotechnics and we can watch right out the window!

Hope you all enjoyed your celebration!

Essie’s first ponytail!

It’s been a busy weekend and this week will be no different. We’re getting ready for vacation bible school at our church and for the first time since we’ve been here, I’m attempting to teach and seeing why I haven’t been eager to do so before (even though I would have liked too). It takes some time to prepare for that, time I feel like I’m really having to squeeze in.

We’re also getting ready for our two week trip to Texas!!! We leave next Sunday, so packing, washing, cleaning etc will be squeezed into this week too. Just letting y’all know so you understand why this blog might be quieter than usual for the next few weeks!

My Mother’s Day

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Wait a minute. That’s not ME in the kitchen making lunch!

That’s my sweet husband who told me he had all the meals taken care of for Mother’s Day! Yay! No cooking and frozen pizza for lunch!

And brats (as in sausage, not children) on the grill for supper!

The day was beautiful, so we decided to eat outside.

A picnic for the babies. Not my best idea, Gerhardt put his foot in ketchup twice, but easy clean up afterward so we all won in the end.

I provided dessert.

Mother’s Day

Me and my beautiful Mama circa…a long time ago.

I recently talked with my mom on the phone and began thanking her for all the unpleasant things she did for me while raising me. We laughed about it, but really I thank you Mama! Thank you for all the necessary but unpleasant things that go unnoticed and “unthanked”. Thankless until I became the mama and began doing them for my little ones. I love you!

And two other beautiful mamas I think about today.

My mama’s mama, Muriel, “Sissy”, Grandma, mother of 11 babies, pictured here with one of my aunties.

And Dad’s mama, Edna, “Mimi”, mother of 5 boys, here with my Dad!

Happy Mother’s Day!

“He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.”

Isaiah 40:11
