Another Little Mama!

June is National Iced Tea Month! After much trial and error I’m happy to report that I’m finally getting better at brewing a good batch of sweet tea, a requirement for any true Southern Belle. I come from a very long line of great iced tea brewers and miss my Mama’s sweet tea up here in Nebraskie. I like to have some in the fridge year round but definitely make it a priority in the summer time. I think I’ll go have some right now. If only I had a big front porch, a cool breeze and a rocking chair…..

This winter I thought for SURE I’d be outside all day, everyday once it warmed up around here. Well, the warm (HOT) weather has come and some days it’s all I can do to make myself take the girls out on the porch to blow bubbles. I do try to take a little walk in the mornings before it gets to warm. Pathetic, I know. Maybe (hopefully) it’s just the pregnancy but I can’t take the “warmth” for very long at all! The other problems have been the 35 mph winds we typically can have up here and the roaming babies who want to be everywhere they aren’t supposed to be. Ok, I think I’m done complaining.
Anyway, I’ve been having to come up with new ideas to keep little hands busy and crying to “go” (outside) at a minimum. I got out these cute little Nativity figures that a lady made for Phil years ago. They worked for a while but then there was fighting over baby Jesus and a chicken getting pulled apart so they’ve gone “bye-bye” for now.
I was pretty impressed though when I saw how Lily had arranged the Holy Family etc all around Jesus.
After a lot of crying I broke down and we got outside. I didn’t have enough energy for full out pool time so I let girls get wet (and muddy) with a little water, some bowls, spoons and cups, such a good time!
We have one more week before we leave on vacation and really I’m feeling the need to have just that!

There was a warning for severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. I didn’t think much of it, as I left for shut-in and nursing home visits. But in Lyons it started raining suddenly. Then lightening struck close by, which startled me. I left for Fremont, not thinking too much of it. In Oakland the sirens were going off. Then I passed several vehicles off Highway 77 recording the sky to the North, where I was coming from. When I got to Fremont I learned that several tornadoes had touched down and were heading towards us.
I was driving to Wal-Mart, looking to take cover, when I heard a loud bang. I didn’t know what it was at first, until several more hit. It was large hail. They were reported as golf-ball size. I was scared that they would break the windshields. I couldn’t believe how loud they were. It let up and I ran into Wal-Mart, in a dazed state. It was eerily deserted. The few people that were there were at the entrances looking at the sky.
In the Northeast area of Nebraska there were 7 tornadoes that reportedly touched down. Most were in the Tekamah (where I go fishing) to Oakland to West Point to Wisner line. Here is one that was videoed near Wisner, which is about 18 miles from Bancroft.
Bancroft didn’t have any severe weather or flooding, though I do have some nice reminders of the hail I encountered in Fremont on my car.
