It was quite a whirlwind. We saw so much. Here is just a taste:
First we flew into Helsinki, Finland. We stayed with our gracious hosts, Rune and Majvor. We attended the wedding celebration of Wes and Kristina in a beautiful Lutheran Church.
We took an overnight ferry from Turku, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden. We only spent 1 night in Sweden, but we saw some neat sites in this city of islands.
This is the Lutheran Cathedral of Sweden, the Storkyrkan. We visited it just a couple days after the royal wedding had taken place.
We spent 1.5 weeks in Germany. After visiting a classmate from Seminary, we went to Trier, known as “Second Rome.” It has much fascinating Roman history and artifacts. This city gate, called the Porta Nigra (black gate). It is the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps. It is quite impressive, considering it dates from before 200 A.D.
This pieced-together mosaic was found underneath the Cathedral in Trier, which dates from 329. It dates from the rule of Constantine the Great.
Great to see that you made it safely back home! I looked at your pictures, and it seemed like you had a great trip. How did your girls react when you came back home?
We are also back to reality. Martin started working again on Monday and we are back to the everyday-life. But it feels good being back home! 🙂 Have a blessed rest of the summer! /Carina (Kristina’s sister)
It is good to hear from you. I know what you mean, I feel like I have to learn how to be a pastor again.
The girls had so much fun, our arrival didn’t faze them. They took it in stride. That was the first time for Clara to a lot spend time with her nephews (6 months and 4 years). Lily was 3 months the last time we went to Texas, so it was basically new to her too. So, it was good for them too.
