Daybook: July Part I

Living Seasonally

The hot summer lingers and the days seem like molasses passing by me, slow and difficult. I only have so much of myself to give each day, and it’s never enough. I’m eager for the school year to begin. The summer has given us; hours outside on the porch, the babies splashing in the pool, eating popsicles and riding their bikes. The back door is always swinging open and I’m constantly saying, “Close the door!” The summer also brings many birthdays to prepare for; Clara, Lily, Me, Gerhardt and other family.

July 4th

This is late, but here’s what we did. We started the day as we did last year, with a morning 3 mile race for Phil. He had a full stroller this year and did a great job! We played around the park and for a hot summer day it was surprisingly very pleasant. I didn’t want to go home. We lunched then headed to the homestead for early naps.

We decorated with some of our beautiful handmade decor, ate an “easy on Mama” supper of chips and brats, then came the firecrackers!

I know there are way too many slide shows flying around on this blog, but allow me one more…for now. So many pictures, it’s just easier to squeeze them into one place right? Here’s our big Independence Day celebration:

Music: Renee and Jeremy

After the babies were in bed Phil and I enjoyed fireworks from our porch and living room. It’s quite nice to live where the neighbors blow $500 on pyrotechnics and we can watch right out the window!

Hope you all enjoyed your celebration!

Collecting Satisfactions

What a difference a year makes! Here is Clara’s lunch sippy cup (she does usually drink from a big girl cup, but Mama is getting lazy) and Gerhardt’s cup, maybe you can tell whose is whose?

The days of baby/toddler eating mess seem long and arduous, but I have come to learn that there is an end…eventually. Not that we don’t have our preschooler eating messes, but it wanes and the complete disaster area becomes a more manageable fight. There is hope! And then it starts all over again.
