Summer At the Parsonage

August 16th, 2012 by Aubri

Now that’s an Ice Cream Sandwich!

Summer break has come to an end. I thought I’d share some of what we were up to the past couple weeks, how we survived!

The girls have been pretty good at entertaining themselves, fashion shows and pouty supermodels are not  uncommon around here, but there always comes that point in the day when the “What can we do fun now?” questions started.

I was so happy to come across a couple sites that never let me down. They’re full of answers to the “What can we do fun now?” question.

Happy Hooligans and The Imagination Tree, are my new best friends!

As we neared the beginning of school I made a count down chain and wrote a new activity for each day on the links. Here are some of the outside fun things we did to get us through the hot boring tail end of Summer break.

Esther’s Sensory Basket.

Working at the Bike Wash!

Baby Bath Time

Freeing the toys trapped in the ice.

This wasn’t going over so well at first and I made the mistake of telling the girls that a mean Ice Witch had trapped all the toys in ice and it was their job to free them. Well, this sparked all kinds of questions from Lily and I was forced to become the Ice Witch, not exactly what I had in mind since the whole idea of playing outside is supposed to give Mama a break. The mean Ice Witch eventually ran away and the toys were freed somehow, then they got out the soap again and made up an entirely new game. Win win in the End!

Well, I couldn’t let them PLAY ALL the time could I?

Fly Swatter Painting. Fun in theory I thought, but should have given more guidance. They ended up asking for paint brushes (how unoriginal!) and once that got boring, they started painting their bikes. Yes, painting their bikes and I did NOT stop them. I’m learning not to interrupt “Quiet and Happy” as long as no one is gonna get hurt and everything can be washed!

We continued our Old Testament Bible lessons though I’d slacked off on them a bit. We made these cute lions for our study of Daniel. I don’t think Daniel thought the lions in the den were cute but gluing noodles to a paper plate seemed like too much fun to pass up.

And I’ve been trying some new recipes. I finally got around to frying up some Green Tomatoes! We have tons of them in our garden right now. They’re slowly beginning to ripen and I thought it’s now or never. I used Christy Jordan’s recipe.

We’ve been given a lot of nice tomatoes from other gardens and you know what to do when life gives you lots of tomatoes. make Salsa!

    Dearest,

I’m curious what printer you have. Your items always look so nice. I’m in the stone age here. No printer! I always get Jud to print things for me at Amplifier. It’s time for this Mama to get some technology of her own!

Love the toys in the ice game. That would’ve been fun….

We just fried Green Tomatoes for the first time last week, too! Some accidentally fell off the tomato plants while I was pruning them, so we thought we’d put them to use!

You do such a super job of capturing your children’s childhood. They’re going to enjoy looking through these pictures one day. They’ll laugh and recall that HOME is a good place to be. Well done, Mama.

Grandmere, “back to school” pics coming soon!

Eug, I just have a black/white laser printer, nothing colored has been printed though I would LOVE to have a color printer. You poor mama, get Jud to get you a printer, Amlifier is way too far to be going to get your coloring sheets!

Brianne, I can’t believe you prune your tomato plants. You go girl!

Jenny, Kristi, you gals are sweet and I always love the pats on the back you give me!
