Happy Birthday Lily

August 6th, 2012 by Aubri

My first baby turned 4 on July 28th! A couple months ago I asked her (with hesitation) what kind of a birthday party she would like. She immediately said “A mermaid party!” Ok, I can do this, I thought. I didn’t want to have to go the Ariel Little Mermaid route and as I began to search for ideas I became quite discouraged. This was gonna be difficult to pull off.

I decided to just keep it simple with a few “ocean” touches, shouldn’t be hard right? Eh, well after much looking and eliminating, I broke down and bought a Barbie Mermaid Adventure sticker book and had my mermaids. Done. And thanks to my Mom, who came for my birthday and stayed for Lily’s, I was able to add more “mermaid” to party!

She found sea shells and little mermaid dolls at the dollars store and some netting for the table.

We hung pearl and blue balloons for “bubbles” and put ocean wall film on the windows to create our under water feeling!

Lily came home from our neighbors house to find the party all ready for her. Ooooo! She said, then asked, “Where are all the Mermaids?” I guess I was supposed to find some real mermaids to come hang out with her. So disappointing.

But she was happy to settle for the mermaid dolls.

And loved her sparkly pink #4 candle.

We had to play our homemade “Pin the Tail on the Mermaid” game!

Clara forwent the indignity of a blindfold.

The rest of us weren’t able to get out of it that easily.

The results…

And the Lone Ranger.

Thank you to all of you who sent gifts to our big girl! She (and the siblings) loved everything!

– 4 Years Ago we became Mama and Daddy, Sniff Sniff –

I always tell Lily “You were my first baby.” She likes that.
