A Bundle of Myrrh

September 17th the German American Society held it’s 132nd Oktoberfest. Our babies were all dressed and ready to dance for it.

The dresses on the three big girls were made by one of the club members and we will use them until they grow out of them. But I was excited for another opportunity for someone to be able to wear one of the two dirndls we got in Germany when Lily and Clara were small. Gerhardt would have to get his lederhosen at the club once we got there. And gosh did he look so cute in them!

Mercy could have danced too even though she’s a little young to officially be one of the tanzers, but we expected she would probably be too tired. We were right.

We had some time to grab a schnitzel sandwich and pomme frites. The kids were allowed a few of those but I was not keen to have them eating anything in their outfits, especially anything with ketchup. We’re meanies yes.

I was so proud of all the babies but especially Gerhardt. The large crowd didn’t seem to bother him at all and once he got over the shock of sooo many people, he was very good at trying to keep Esther where she was supposed to be and doing the right steps. He’s a good little dancer. And these two dancing together just tickled me to death!

The “Birdie” dance is one of their favorites. For this one the grown up Tanzers come in and today kids from the crowd were welcomed to join the dance.

Some slap dancing from the men. Gerhardt was riveted. This is his dream dance. Maybe one day he’ll be out there slapping his feet right with them.

I’m so glad the kids got to experience all of this and be a part of the fun this year!
