“The company of angels
is praising you on high;
and we with all creation
in chorus make reply.
The people of the Hebrews
with palms before you went;
our praise and prayer and anthems
before you we present.”
Palm Sunday, one of my favorite days in the Church Year. The ease and festive air to this day gives me joy. The day we remember our Lord riding into Jerusalem. Riding to die. Riding on to conquer sin and take death captive. The Church sings out in praise and thanksgiving.
After naps we set to making our traditional Palm Sundaes.
Since Daddy wasn’t going to be home tonight for supper I decided Sundaes, Strawberries and Scrabbled Eggs would be a good enough meal for the babies. Clara told me I was the best mom in the world.
They also got to watch a show while they ate. The babies always get upset when it comes time for Jesus to be arrested, tried and crucified. They ask me to skip those parts. It gives me another chance to talk about our sin and why Jesus endures these terribleĀ things.
“Jesus, Lord, my heart renew,
Let me bear my crosses,
Learning humbleness from you,
Peace despite my losses.
May I give you love for love!
Hear me, O my Savior,
That I may in heaven above
Sing your praise forever.”
And we enter Holy Week.
I love the Palm Sundae idea. We often use Sunday evening for more of a snack-y meal– soft pretzels, milk shakes, popcorn, crackers and cheese. And we always have strawberry shortcake for supper when we get our big load of strawberries. But I think I’ll need to try to remember the Palm Sundaes for next year.
