I could hardly believe it when we lit the third candle on our Advent wreath. The last couple weeks have been a blur of busy and sick. I’m plowing through the days with a long to do list, getting a lot done, just nothing on my list of course. That’s ok. We’re all tired and our waiting and preparing will come to an end soon.
I had hoped to have more house cleaning done by this point of Advent, also I’d wanted to start freezer meals and Christmas baking but I make do and receive what God sends for each day. As this season of life goes for me, just keeping up with the minimum has been enough work.
I hope the shut-ins liked their cards Esther and I made in about 3 minutes before Daddy ran out the door. It’s the thought right?
This Advent is rushing by but we’ve managed to enjoy some of the traditions it brings, opening a door in our calendar each day, lighting our wreath at supper time and we’ve even attempted a few evening devotions using our Jesse Tree lessons, still without the ornaments to go on our tree. Sigh.
I did something new this year and wrapped a Christmas book to open each night of Advent. The babies are loving it and I’ve found I am too. I’m just as eager to see which one they’ll open. Most are oldies we’ve had for a couple years but some are new. It wasn’t as much work as I thought it would be so I think this one might be a keeper.
Last week we had a couple FIRSTS at our house! Clara lost a tooth, much earlier then Lily did and Mercy took some first steps….before she got all sicky.
Then the sick hit.
Thus the blur of a weekend.
Yesterday the fog seemed to lift a bit for Clara and Mercy. There were more smiles and some playing with trains.
But this virus isn’t finished with us yet. It may just make it’s way through us all before the week ends.
Hopefully this will all pass in time for Christmas.
Advent is the time of waiting, waiting for Christmas, waiting for our tummies to stop hurting and waiting for the everlasting day when we won’t need puke pails and yucky medicine any more.
I really like the wrapped book idea. I wanted to do something like that, but I think my boyos are a bit beyond it, sad to say. Hope your family heals well and quickly.
Thank you Jenny. It was a good thing I had a huge roll of wrapping paper in the basement that I hadn’t touched for years cuz I’m too lazy to wrap gifts any more since gift bags came along. So I decided to use that up. Wrapping 24 books was fun but took some sneaking time. I hope we can do this for a few more years though. I know eventually a lot of little traditions we have will probably be outgrown. Sniff sniff. But I guess that’s the way new ones begin right?
How about switching to a relevant book with 24 chapters – reading one a night. It might take longer each night but I bet they’d enjoy it just as much!
No wrapping paper though….that might be the biggest bummer.

Hope everyone gets well soon!!
prayers for healing and strength and for endurance until the end
Lea, I like that idea. Maybe that is something to transition to when they’re older and not into all the wrapping paper anymore! 🙂
Thank you Carrie and Rebekah, “prayers for healing and strength and for endurance until the end” much needed.
