A Bundle of Myrrh

First Day of School

It’s here, the first day of school! It was a mostly smooth morning. The babies loved their schultüte or maybe it’s “their schultüten” I’ll ask Esther. Not traditionally something Germans do every year the kids go to school, just for the first grade, but I started something that will be hard to stop!

I filled ours with school supplies and a piece of candy.

They hardly ate anything for breakfast they were so eager to get going. Too early but I was glad for the extra time to get my pictures!

That First day of School August Sun is always in our eyes on the front porch so I told them to close their eyes and say cheese. Better than hands in their faces I thought.

Our Gerhardt, so shy but he surprised us. This will be the first time he’s had to go or do anything apart from his big sisters. But he was excited, he said he wanted to go to school, I wasn’t so sure. But there he stood, ready and when Phil left him at school he didn’t cry, he didn’t fuss, he was fine! Phil picked him up a few hours later and Gerhardt said he wanted to go to school everyday. I was so proud!

Clara hasn’t said much about starting Kindergarten except that she “might be shy.” Her sweet teacher sent a card in the mail to her, that arrived yesterday. She smiled about it. She jumped up and down with the others this morning over the First day of school, so I think she’s glad. This will be a different year for her, going all day, starting to learn to read. I’m excited for her!

Then there’s our big girl Lily, starting 1st grade! I can’t imagine all the changes she’ll go through this year! She was a little nervous but I know she’ll adjust to a new teacher quickly.

Then they were off!

Look at my sweet babies going to School!

The mornings will be different for us. Just 3 babies home until lunch time when Gerhardt comes back from school. Esther will be the head honcho, the big kid. She’ll rule the roost while the others are away!

Unless Ephraim has anything to say about that!

I hope the mornings will be “easier” with just 3. I’d like to get to the park more and I’ll probably get a little more work done, but there’s just something about Esther and Ephraim that doesn’t mix well. It was the same with Clara and Gerhardt, but these two! Some days it just doesn’t seem to end. I’m hoping that will change through the year when they figure out they’re all the other has.

Thankfully they have Mercy too, the little peace keeper!

There’s nothing we can’t conquer together Essie!!
Especially dragons!
(No, I’m not calling Ephraim a dragon Esther…though the similarities are uncanny.)

There’s something about sending littles off to preschool and kindergarten that makes me cry…

They are all so beautiful (handsome!) all ready for the first day of school! And isn’t it wonderful that daddy can escort them- that is a memory that will last them a life-time! 🙂

  3. Love the red shoes with the blue dress! I love red shoes period but that combo is beautiful!

Everyone looks so excited! And I’m so glad that everything went mostly smoothly…that’s a huge blessing.

    Have a wonderful school year,
    Lea

I know Jenny, it’s a big change! It was really hard with the girls, hard to have them out of my care and in someone else’s hands! And it means….growing up!! 🙁

Yes Grandmere, I’m so glad he can do that!

Lea, I was very proud of Clara’s choice of outfit, so pretty I thought. I’m a sucker for red shoes too! A blessed school year to you too!

Love love to see your precious, beautiful family! I always tell Willard Aubris’s children are so pretty? We have to come for a visit one of these days? Hope school stays fun for all!
