Sioux Falls or Bust

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Next time you’re in South Dakota you really should check out Sioux Falls. Phil and I spent 3 days there last week, a little hiatus from our day to day, to do absolutely nothing or a whole lot of relaxing and we did both very well.

June

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

It’s been almost a week since we left Texas and headed back home. We survived the 12 hour long haul to Nebraska but it’s not something I’m eager to repeat anytime soon. The dust is finally beginning to settle and things are finding their way out of suitcases and back into their place. June was busy, but the rest of our summer should be pretty lazy, well as lazy as life will let it!

Here’s a little show of most of what happened in June beginning with VBS then our time with family in sweltering Tejas. There was much swimming, two birthday parties for our now 3 year old Clara, some horses, ferraris and tons of food.

Seeing America…Mostly by Car

Friday, May 20th, 2011

We’re back from a very relaxing and luxurious road trip across the Mid-West. Our desination was Butler, PA where cousins Weslie and Kristina have been serving a vicarage (well, Weslie, not Kristina she’s been up to other things). We saw a lot of beautiful country and learned many new things like, oh hey, Jefferson City is the capital of Missouri! And since we were going through “Jeff City” we thought we’d take in the sites.

Thoughts on Europe

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

I will offer some thoughts on my recent experiences in Europe, especially on their church life and population changes. Most peoples’ roots and our Lutheran heritage are based in Europe. As America ages, we are becoming more like an European nation. Let’s take a peek at what may come.

Lutheranism is not German. Though it started in Germany, both Sweden and Finland are officially Lutheran, even today. Strangely enough the German state church is “prostestant,” not “Lutheran.” These countries have large and beautiful churches. While many people go to see these churches, they do not go to worship services. For the most part, they don’t care to hear about the Gospel or Jesus.

I was able to attend a Sunday morning service at a state Lutheran church in Finland. It must have seated about 500 people. Yet, there were only around 30 people in church, including some visitors, like us. This church serves 1000’s of people, but they do not go. Even members of the church think of going to church as little as visiting the North Pole. A majority of Europeans live as if there were no God who speaks to them in words.
