I’m turning the mic over to Phil on this one. He’s much better with details than I am. This cave was beautiful but I have to admit I spent most of the time just trying not to fall down or bump into any o the rocks, this proved harder than I thought. I have no sense balance after having babies and with a growing belly and the tour guide squeezing past us on some of the paths I kept imagining myself plummeting into the dark abyss around us! I made it through though and glad we have some pictures so I can now enjoy what we “saw”. Okay here’s Phil.
We took a tour of the third longest cave in the world. It was a 1/2 mile loop up and down 700+ stair steps.
Although we only saw 0.3% of the cave, we were ready for land above ground after an hour and a half of spelunking.
We started out about 234 feet below ground via elevator.
And we got as deep as 390 ft below the surface.
We walked in large caverns connected by narrow passages.
There were all sorts of interesting formations to see.
An entertaining park ranger told us all about the cave and its history.
Cave Trolls do exist!
Spelunkers are still exploring this cave, but it takes days to get to the known ends of this cave with a total length of 166.7 miles.
The wild caving tours last up to four days below ground.
The only natural opening was originally not big enough for an adult to fit through.
We were told the cave extended as far was we could see beneath this hillside. It pretty amazing to see a small portion of it.
