Our Feast of St. Valentine

February 17th, 2013 by Aubri

No one is surprised that I’m just getting around to Valentine’s Day I’m sure! I wanted to get this here to help me remember what we did and so I’d know what not to do next year. We made cards for our Grandparents, something I want to do every year, but run out of time and energy and since they’ve already gotten them (I hope!) I can show and tell them.

Cute and easy!

Ash Wednesday

February 13th, 2013 by Aubri

Sick has come to visit us again. He just likes me I guess. So in addition to getting ready for Lent, marking Ash Wednesday in our home and preparing for St. Valentine’s day I’ve been walking around pouting. Frustrated that I can’t seem to get healthy and whining about my achy body, drippy nose and pressure cooker head.

But for my memory I wanted to jot down what I did manage to get done today for Ash Wednesday. However I did get some things out on our liturgical table, talk to the babies about what Lent is and make a Lenty supper.

Getting Ready for Lent

We’re not good at giving things up for Lent here. I’m not opposed to it, I just never get around to figuring out what it should be that I give up and truthfully my daily crosses are enough sometimes! So instead of giving up, we will take up something for Lent. This year I’d like to memorize Psalm 51. It’s not a long chapter and since some of it is a part of our church liturgy, I’m already familiar with it.

(And don’t go thinking I’ve already put our Lenten items out on the table…this is from last year! I’ll get to it.)

Sharing the Love

February 10th, 2013 by Aubri

We’re focusing on Love (or at least trying to!) during February. I wanted to share some of the ways we’re doing that.

In addition to commemorating the enigmatic Saint Valentine, I wanted to encourage the kiddos to use the “Valentine’s Day season” as an extra opportunity to show love and kindness to others.

I liked this Valentine’s Day Count Down Chain I used last year and decided to make one this year too. On each of the links is a Bible verse about Love. Also, I added an activity or loving act for the girls to do. I just wrote those next to the verse.
