Living Seasonally
It’s the same every year, it feels like Fall will never get here. Then once it finally arrives, it feels just like Summer. But I love it, that transitioning into this season. I love that all my favorite church days are on the horizon, I love that the days will soon have a chill in the air, I love that the trees are about to do what they do. I put out the pumpkins my babies bring home to me and soak it all in. Let the Fall begin!

Sept. 21: Backing up a bit. The babies ready for their folk dancing performance at the German Am. Society’s Oktoberfest. Esther is sick this year so I stay home with her. Phil takes all and apparently Martha goes out on the dance floor for the first time, not to dance very much but at least she gets out there! Of course I would miss that.

Sept. 28: Abel turns 8 months old. The wild Force is strong with this one. I sense we do not have many more days of “calm.” When this guy starts moving more…we all in trouble! He is sitting pretty well but beware, he falls. He still isn’t crawling or rolling but manages to get stuck under things all the same. He terrorizes books and wants to eat all the things…the tiny no no things he can find or inhale in the carpet or floor he’s laying on. In his free time he eats baby food, container after container of baby food. And he has a new talent, Maniac Laugh. It’s startling, crazy and a little bit scary.

Sept. 29: The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels. Holy Cross and St. Michael’s day mark the beginning of my favorite season and kick off so many delightful holy days. Today we thank God for creating His heavenly host. We remember the battle in Heaven, the fierce warrior angels led by Michael and our victory over the great dragon, that old serpent Satan.
