Yesterday was the first of the autumnal Ember Days. We prepare for Fall which begins on Saturday!
Lily, Gerhardt and I went for an “Embertide Walk” yesterday to look at the changes taking place as creation leaves Summer behind and welcomes Fall.
We collected some of our treasures.
(Um, I’ll take a minute to say Lily dressed herself today, see above. She’s doing more of that and I’m letting her. As long as her health isn’t in danger and what’s she’s wearing is decent and won’t bring too much embarrassment on our family, then I’m not going to argue with her anymore!) (Oh and Gerhardt likes to choose his clothes for the day as well, but we typically don’t allow him out doors in what he chooses, what can we say, he has some flare.)
I let Lily take some photos of the changes we could see.
Today during our Embertide Walk we talking about all that we did in the Summer and why we can’t do those things anymore. How the days are getting cooler, shorter and how our garden will begin to die and cease to yield and all of our gardening tools will be put away until the Spring.
We also take this time to thank a Gracious God who gives us the coolness of Autumn, such a needed relief after the heat of Summer.

I think Lily did a great job at selecting her outfit! I gather she is no longer afraid of pine cones? And Gerhardt is so cute no matter if he does wear his sisters’ clothes! 🙂
