A Bundle of Myrrh

Cultivating Simplicity

Isn’t making life more “simple” something we all would like to do? Maybe. Unfortunately, some of us seem to be blessed with the ability to always make things more complicated. In an attempt to cultivate simplicity in my already complicated life, I often find myself looking for better ways to do things, whether it’s reorganizing an out of control closet or making my bread making process easier (thank you Jenny!!). I’m loving how quick and easy it is to pull a pre-made flour bag out of the freezer and dump it into the bread machine! Yay!

I think my next move will be more slow cooker meals. Genius, but this will require forethought, something my “blessed with the ability to always make things more complicated” brain doesn’t typically allow.

Creating Beauty

Home date night last Sunday. Yes, that is a heaping plate of potatoes and I DID get seconds. I love these evenings after the babies are in bed, cooking without baby chaos, taking my time to actually chew food and listening to the silence or the adult talkie!

Nurturing Hearts

This summer our Lesson Time has focused on the Old Testament Bible stories. We finished our lessons on The Creation a couple weeks ago.

I haven’t had “Lesson Time” everyday since my energy level has begun to drop to lower levels than usual but I’ve squeaked in some.

On July 16th the Church remembered Ruth the Moabitess. The girls had fun with this craft.

Nurturing Minds

My mom surprised me with a visit arriving last week for my birthday and will stay until after Lily’s birthday on Saturday.

Nurturing Senses

My mom brought fun and yummy alphabet cookies!

Nurturing Bodies

Esther says, “So much sweet corn, so little time!”

It’s wonderful to receive a bounty of corn from church members. It almost makes the heat of summer worth looking forward to.

I love empanadas. I’ve made them several times and though they are tasty, I still can’t get my pastry right. I’m about to toss in the pastry towel and just go Pillsbury.

And we tried our hands at homemade corn dogs!

Some of our dogs had nice little tails. We used some of the remaining batter to make “crunchies” with.

Capturing Time

I always feel so lazy when I read your blog! Those empanadas look yummy. What recipe are you using?

Ah! Shirtless Phil! Finally! That’s what this blog has needed for a long time.

    Ha ha Kristina, it makes me feel lazy too! The dough recipe I tried this time was here;

I didn’t use a food processor as she does, so that may have made a big difference. I’ll keep trying some different recipes though, it would be nice to get this one right…so worth it!

Wesie, I put that pic up just for you. Back off, he’s mine.

Love these comments – y’all are so funny! I’m so proud of my nieces and nephews 🙂
I think I sense some Christy Jordan there on those corn dogs – they look great – I bet Uncle Butch would’ve loved to eat three or two (as they say at the County Fair, except they call them “Cozy Dogs”).
I love those alphabet cookies – where did she find those? Not that we would have them in Marion, but you can’t ever tell. Happy Birthday wishes to Lily today – if I wasn’t nursing a sore throat and preparing for a concert at Sylvia’s church Sunday night, you know I’d call and sing to her, but the doctor told me to rest my voice until then.

Hey! Thanks for the plug. 😉 So glad I could be of help. You know what’s funny? When we share something we don’t find terribly enlightening, but it turns out to be the one thing that someone else needed to lighten or brighten their day. Jon and I used to do at- home dinner dates. I had forgotten all about them. Of course they would be more difficult now, with older kids who don’t need to go to bed at 7:00. But we could do at- home lunch dates and I could make something delish that only he and I would eat! Thanks for brightening my day! I’m excited to put this plan into action come back-to-school.

Thank you Leah! I know Lily would have loved the birthday call, I hope you get to feeling better soon! I think Mama found those cookies at Trader Joe’s whilest in Missouri? The are cute and YUMMY!

Jenny, it is funny how that works, you never know what someone will take away from a post! Get your home date on!
