Happy Valentine’s Day!
We are enjoying the most beautiful day. It’s a wonderful 43 degrees and sunny. A day to really warm your heart. A day you want to LOVE everybody! We’ve eaten a ton of chocolate, opened some sweet Valentine’s from Grandma and took a walk to the post office. I wanted to share some of our Valentine’s Day decorations with you all. I thought I’d have posted these pictures last week but getting time to blog doesn’t come easily anymore.
I haven’t invested much time or money in Valentine’s Day decorations. It never was my favorite holiday so I didn’t see much point. But after the winters we’ve endured and having removed all the Christmas decorations the house just felt so blah. Valentine’s Day provides a great excuse to warm it up by splashing some red and pink around!
And maybe it’s because I have my sweet man and babies but I’ve definitely begun to think differently about this holiday and was encouraged by this post I read recently. We are commanded to love. Christ says in John 13:34-35
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
We should show love everyday, but there’s nothing wrong with taking one day in particular to be more conspicuous about it right? A special day to lavish those we love with kindness or loving words and maybe cards, candy and pretty things. Anyway, I’ve decided to enjoy this day and the days that have lead up to it. I hope you have too!
I made this very simple banner last week after seeing this one. It’s made out of newspaper which I had plenty of on hand and usually just throw away. No more! There will now be a newspaper bunting for all seasons!
Shaved crayon “stained glass” hearts for the window! I saw here.
This was another easy decoration to make, but shaving crayons took some time and I quickly realized after getting the girls all excited about this that this was not a craft for the girls to help me with. Oh well, I had fun with it and thought they turned out nicely.
A few more I didn’t get around to stringing I just hung on a shelf in my kitchen.
Because I didn’t have a lot of things “Valentine” I looked around the house for what I already had that I could use. With Valentine’s Day being about love I thought these little dolls I made years ago would be fun to display. Don’t they make a cute couple?
Here are a few more things I found to put out for Valentine’s Day.
This perfect frame was a wedding gift. I love the kissy pictures I found to put in it.
My heart shortbread cookies were not my most successful endeavor but at least they’re tasty! I thought serving these at a tea party with the girls would be a nice treat for today.
A chocolate bar for my Valentine. I stole this great idea from here. And no, that’s not Swedish Phil. It’s not pronounced “Ooodamann” but “You Da Man”. That’s what I get for trying to be clever and cute. Maybe if I’d had a color printer…
I’m glad I took the time to make a couple things this year. I think I’ll keep adding to my collection and continue make this day special for my loved ones. I already have some ideas for celebrating next year.
How fun! Great ideas, Aubri! Thanks for sharing.
I love you and your sweet family, even though we’ve never officially met. I feel I know them because of this great blog!
I love all these ideas! And what a fun way to display that heart frame!
