After church Sunday I had to get Gerhardt in one of his new sweaters and matching hat. How could I have kept these photos to myself?!
Can’t you already see the six year old Gerhardt on school picture day?! Sigh.
I’m trying this 12 Days of Christmas countdown “calendar” again this year. But instead of one treat a day I added last year, I now have to put two. Not easy. They slide out, knocking the “doors” off the tin. I meant to get stronger magnets for the backs of these but forgot. So brilliant me thought I’d wrap the treats and tape them into the tin. Great but not gonna work on a non-stick surface that’s been doused in butter for years. So I had to go with a different brand pan. The treats stuck better, but I couldn’t hang this one!
I thought I’d see how it went if I put it on a shelf in the living room.
Hmmm, I don’t think this was the best idea either. Lily was so careful to cover her tracks…but unfortunately she needed my help to open the treat she’d found behind lucky door #12.
So my search for a 12 Days of Christmas calendar continues. I welcome any ideas!
Another tradition we started this year is saving all our Christmas cards for opening on the day after Christmas. It was fun to sit down with Phil and go through them together. Then I hung them up for us to look at throughout the remaining Nativity season.
I hung all the photo cards we received on the pantry door so the girls could see them.
I’d love to hear some of your Christmas traditions or any ways you keep celebrating Christ’s birth after December 25th!
Some years we save our opened Christmas cards in a nice container in the breakfast room, and at one mealtime we will open a card and pray for the sender when we have the blessing.
I thought about doing this too! I think it’s a great idea. Maybe next year!
