Sunday we celebrated the Feast of St. Nicholas.
I’d forgotten how good Haribo Gumi-Bears or “goomy” bears are. If I remember right they’re the only kind we ate in Germany. (Mutti, let me know if I’m making stuff up.) Now I also think the German kiddies called them “goomy” bears or maybe it was my Germanish kid neighbor growing up, but Lily was calling them this on Sunday and I didn’t teach her that. I think she must have heard this in her German class. Interesting only to me I know.
Gifts this year:
Nicholas The Boy Who Became Santa DVD
A pair of socks
And a new bouncy ball for Phil to throw around the house.
This is the only day shoes are allowed on the table.
A treat in our Advent calendar.
Little Santa St. Nicholas chocolates.
And since this festival fell on a Sunday I went ahead and made goodie bags for the babies to take to Sunday School and hand out. We made 53 of them and I think we only had one left over! Shew.
I like to get my old wooden shoes out on St. Nicholas day. They make me happy.
They’re a perfect fit for Esther. I believe I was her age the last time I could fit into them!
We had a good time later that afternoon at the German American Society’s “Christmas in Germany.” We didn’t stay for the visit from St. Nicholas, but the babies did get to watch the folk dancing and the Sangerchor perform some Christmas carols.
I got to poke around the Christkindlmarkt and treat myself to a few treasures! A cute new apron.
And a linen table cloth. Something about German folk artsie goods just warms my heart.
Can anyone stand how cute this kleines Mädchen is?!
Love the apron. Love the tablecloth. Love the children!!!!
What fun celebrations! It’s funny to see Esther wearing your wooden shoes! “Goomie” is correct, the “U” is a long U in the German; that’s why they pronounced our last name “Hoo-ghess” And the Harbio brand is the one we bought over there. Glad you got to shop at the Christmas Market, I know it was lot’s of fun! And yes, that is one cutie pie wearing your new apron!
What were in the goodie bags? It looks like candy canes and….? What a neat idea!
Your new apron and that tablecloth are beautiful! I’m so glad you got a little time to look around and enjoy the day.
Lea
Lea, I just put a candy cane and one chocolate gold coin. Kept it simple! 🙂
