Our First 8 Years

I think back on this past year not knowing as we went along that we were writing the last chapter of the book that has been our 8 years here. Here where our story began.

house-outside

An ordination, an engagement, a home, a family. It all started in this little town, in this house.

They tell you that a house is just four walls and how easy it is to get emotionally attached to a living space. That it’s the people and the memories made there that matter most and when you leave it you’ll still have those. And that is true.

But I still can’t help the fact that this house that was our first home will always be a special place for us. Phil and I have never made a big move like this together, other than the big move of getting married I guess. This is the only home we’ve ever had and life is about to change in so many ways.

As I do when I want to commemorate a special occasion or when I’ve taken way too many amazing pictures, I made a slideshow. I warn you now, I’m planning about 5 more…maybe, so you can all walk down this lane of 8 years of memories with me.

Here’s a tribute to our first 8 years.

  3. I agree with Carrie – beautiful!

Your home is a place that’s filled with love! You and Phil have made that house into a home, and you will do it again in your new home. God’s blessings on the packing and the memories!

We left our first congregation after 8 1/2 years where all our boys were born. It is so difficult to leave and I’ll warn you it is even more difficult to come back and visit. Take lots of pictures of everything that is part of your life now, I tried to take pictures of all the buildings and people my boys saw on a regular basis. Not just our churches but also their doctor and chiropractor and bank etc. Your children are so young that only the oldest ones will remember anything of your life now. Pictures help bring back those memories a little. I recently came across pictures of the town that we lived in when I went to kindergarten. My parents took pictures of all the stores and businesses around our small town. I remembered so much seeing those pictures 35 years later.
Now we live in the big city and everyone that visits us is jealous of the boys ride-on- tractor that one adopted grandpa from one of our congregations gave us. We recently went back and visited and made a point to visit that man because my boys didn’t remember him at all after 3 1/2 years.
You are in our prayers to get everything done for moving and to say goodbye to all the people you care about so much there.

Thank you ladies, tissues I know! And I’m gonna need more as the week goes on!

Then you know exactly what this is like Ewe! Thank you for those thoughts. I have taken a lot of pictures of our town. I even got one of the hospital 4 of the babies were born in but I can’t find it now. I’m sure I’ll come across it someday. We really hope to be able to stay in touch with some of the folks we’re leaving behind. 🙁
