August has come to an end, Summer is becoming Fall and every year a giddiness begins to seep into my bones. Fall will be here soon. I’m ready. But first we squeeze out as much summer as we can from the green grass and warm days.
My mom has arrived to spend a couple weeks with us!
We celebrate baptismal birthdays for Lily and a late one for Clara.
And settle into the routines of school days. I’ve finally found a way to keep school folders and lunch bags off the kitchen counter and from getting lost…hopefully. A simple solution of rearranging a couple shelves.
When they remember where their supposed to put everything, this system is working out well!
I’m trying to get back to doing a little lesson with the babies that are left home in the mornings. I had fun doing this with Lily but the last couple years that routine has been more difficult to keep. I’m also trying to let the big kids do more of the cooking. They helped me make biscuits. And Lily can make her Macaroni and Cheese now almost without help..ish.
And our Gerhardt turned 4 on the 28th! We had a breakfast party before school and tomorrow we’ll throw a big Spiderman Bash!
One of the final games of the Omaha Storm Chasers was Saturday. Phil took the Big 3 as we call them.
Since everything in Nebraska is about CORN it makes sense that the Storm Chasers mascot is….corn, right? I’m sure Clara was expecting an Omaha Steak, how disappointing.
I love finding Corn helping itself to our backyard. The perfect “You know you live in Nebraska if…”
Thanks for sharing, aubri. Glad you found an organization system. I too would like to get back to doing some sort of lesson with my remaining littles. I used to do this all the time with the oldest two…things have changed. The ones I still have at home are really not so much gonna be into lessons, but I can read and do some hands on activities with them, go outside with them, do musical things, etc. I love the idea of having the older ones help cook.
My second-born has become Chief of Scrambled Eggs. I’m always multi-tasking (ie overcooking them). Robert, tonight: “YES! Gregory is making scrambled eggs. He’s the best at them. Mom’s aren’t so good.” (Yes, we had breakfast for dinner.)
Your bookshelves look great! The kids will get used to using it as time goes by. Just keep reminding them. 🙂
I wish I had the courage to have the boys cook more. I have a very difficult time relinquishing that control in my kitchen. Of course, they don’t have much interest in the first place. My oldest, however, does a great mac ‘n cheese with tuna that his brothers just love! Thank heaven for that!
Things do change after a few more babies don’t they Rebekah? I’m hoping to stick with morning activities this year, Esther loves crafts and if I don’t keep Ephraim busy he might just eat us all.
Katy, I love breakfast supper! I’d definitely do that more often if Phil didn’t hate breakfast supper!
Thanks Jenny, and um Mac’n cheese with Tuna? Ha! I’d keep the kids out of the kitchen too. 🙂
August looks like it was full of fun. Hope you have a nice visit with your Mom!
