Baptism Day

July 7th, 2013 by Aubri

Today we celebrated Clara’s Baptism anniversary, which was June 28th, but I always forget, poor Clara.

The babies are allowed to wear their baptism shell necklaces on baptism days, their own or others and they can wear them to church on a day we have a baptism there. We have a little service during the day, here’s what we do:

Lighting of the Baptism Candle (I let Clara help me do that)
Reading from the Catechism (or from our Follow and Do book) on Holy Baptism
Singing of the Child’s Baptism Day Hymn (I try to remember to write which one we sang on the original day. One perk of being Pastor’s wife…I get to pick for each baby!) Clara’s is God’s Own Child I Gladly Say It.
Prayer for the Child from LSB pg. 271
Treat Time, with a small candle while we sing “I Was Baptized Happy Day!”

A Strawberry Shortcake Treat.

What do you do for Baptism Birthdays?

  1. We do something similar – a special treat, lighting of the baptismal candles and the Remembrance of Baptism prayer from the Lutheran Book of Prayer.

When John has his “own” church we’ll probably provide the altar flowers for the closest Sunday too. We’ve done it before but our current congregation has a florist as a member that donates them so we don’t have that option right now.

Where did you get the shell necklaces? I love those and what a good idea!

    Thanks for sharing,
    Lea

I always save the bulletin, which helps me remember both the date and the songs sung (we requested GOCIGSI for our last two babies. It’s kind of our family baptism hymn, now).

  3. Carrie says:

Happy baptism day, Clara! We celebrate baptism days like birthdays, that’s when we do gifts and cake.

Lea the shell charms are from James Avery:
