March 19th is the Feast of St. Joseph, Guardian of Jesus. I’m sure it’s just me but Joseph seems to be one of those saints easily overlooked, lurking in the background, in the shadow of Mary and certainly of Jesus.
Joseph is many times painted as looking pretty frail, sad and always holding those lillies. But in my mind he was a little more manly than that. We don’t know much about him but I believe it’s safe to assume he was just like any Daddy.
A Protector
Playful
Tender

Compassionate
A Teacher of Scripture
A good and honorable father.
I like to think of St. Joseph’s Day as the Church’s Father’s Day. So we celebrated the fathers in our family.
And made cards for our Grandfathers….um, we’ll mail them eventually Grandfathers!
The babies really liked seeing the photos of their Grandfathers and Great-Grandfathers.
I liked the fact that we actually have carpenters in our family. My grandfather worked as carpenter and we can look around our own home to see all that Phil’s dad has built for us.
And who wouldn’t like looking at photos of their young handsome Daddy….no beard! Woo woo!
Oh and there were the unfortunate cookies. I’m going down as the world’s worst cookie decorator.
These are little “Josephs” in a carpenters apron, with a carpenter’s square and I guess that was a staff he’s carrying. Sorry about the pink frosting Joseph, I intended to make red.
Clara tried to help me out of this mess.
Yes, I think hers was much better.
More cookies, “Joseph’s tools”. Not pretty but very tasty!
“We sing our thanks for Joseph,
The guardian of our Lord
Who faithfully taught Jesus
Through craft and deed and word.
Grant wisdom, Lord, and patience
To parents everywhere
Who guide and teach the children
Entrusted to their care.”
Love the pictures you found of Joseph and Jesus. And I love how you incorporated the fathers in your own family. Another job well done! (clap, clap, clap)
Great thoughts on Joseph, Aubri. Thank God for the faithful earthly fathers he blessed us with. (P.S. Good job on the cookies)
Thank you ladies!
Love the post. We give thanks for fathers.
