What We’re Reading Wednesday

First of all I’m TERRIBLE at giving Book Reviews. So don’t expect that here. I just like knowing what other ladies and Mamas are reading, so that’s pretty much all I’ve got for you too. Sorry.

I had a lot of books I wanted to read during my Post-Partum “baby-moon”. Phil got these for me. For the first week, though I was SO tired,  it was hard for me to turn my brain off when I’d try to nap or at night when I’d get into bed. I was glad to have a few books to chose from to pick up and wind down with. I’m not far into these books yet so bare with me.

Truth be told I’ve never read any books on baby Sleep Methods or Training so I thought I’d start reading some books on the subject. All this time we’ve just winged it, done what we’ve needed to survive and actually done pretty good that way or been lucky! Perhaps we’ve just got stellar sleepers but I never felt the need to really research ways to get babies to sleep or ways to “sleep train”. I’ve read bits here and there and there have been many times that I’ve wished we did have a sleep training plan, but we’ve just gotten through.  I’ve come across a lot of Mamas who highly recommend this book, The Sleep Easy Solution and a couple others, The Baby Whisperer and Healthy Sleep Habbits, Healthy Child.  I may pick these other two up at some point.

Do any of you have a favorite baby sleep training method or book?

I wanted to read Fit to Burst because I was familiar with the author, Rachel Jankovic, having read her first book, Loving the Little Years. She’s the mom of 6 so she’s where I am which is nice and I like a lot of what she has to say about mothering, about Grace and repentance but I’m still working on my opinion on this one. Read this post for a better review on this book.

You can watch an interview with her HERE and she writes at DesiringGod.org and at Femina. Some of my favorite posts from her are: Motherhood Is a Calling (And Where Your Children Rank) and Motherhood Is Application.

“Do not use your own mistakes as an excuse to wallow about what a bad mother you are. Repent, seek forgiveness, get it right, and move on. Believe. Be forgiven. Extend that forgiveness, that belief, that joy, to your children.” Rachel Jankovic

And finally I’m reading Dad Is Fat by Jim Gaffigan….the Hot Pockets guy and father of 5. There’s only so much Parenting Advice or Inspiration to “be a better mama” that I can take, so I needed this one.  You can borrow it when I’m done, or just watch THIS, THIS AND THIS and you’ll know why I love this guy.

And If you have Netflix you MUST watch his special “Mr. Universe”.

  1. I loved Mr. Universe as well! I like Nighttime Parenting by Dr. Sears. I must check out this Rachel Jankovic now.
