A Bundle of Myrrh

"My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh." Song of Solomon 1:13

Happy Birthday Lily!

July 29th, 2013 by Aubri

Yesterday my first baby turned FIVE!

Five years ago we were doing this.

Blessed and scared to death!

Five years fly by and then suddenly we’re having the BEST Gnome Party I’ve ever been to!

As I wrote about before, Lily is a bit in love with Gnome or “Knowns” right now. So that was what she chose for her birthday theme.

I found our little Gnome friend at Hobby Lobby for $3! And used Gnome stickers to make the cupcake pics.

These are supposed to be these cute “toadstools” but I really don’t like White Chocolate so went regular and just couldn’t keep a hold of the Strawberries whilest dipping, BUT they tasted great and that was all that mattered right?!

Lily the Gnome.

I had to remind her that it’s the Dwarves that dig for gold, not the Gnomes.

I couldn’t help it. I had to make hats for everyone, cheap felt and a couple stitches was all it took, they’ve been wearing them ever since.

Our honored guests.

I told them we’d have the party around 4pm. When they got here Leanna said it was so fitting to start our celebration of Lily at 4 since she had been born at 3:59pm!

Oh, yeah, I knew that…

Behold the Gnome pinata. Courtesy of THIS photo and THESE instructions on a DIY pinata.

Phil and I bought Wil Huygen’s Gnomes for Lily and for all of us really. It’s full of wonderful illustrations of Gnomes and Gnome life. Someone described it as an Encyclopedia of Gnomes and it is. So fun to look through, BUT be warned a bit of Gnome nudity is included. Lady Gnome bosom and a Gnome bum fresh out of the bathtub, but other than that we love this book!

I think I’ve done this before, but I’ll do it again and share a letter I wrote to her when she was just a week old. I’ll try not to cry.

Lily Ruth, you’ve been with Mama and Daddy for one week. How quickly the days have gone. To think seven days ago you were still in my tummy. I loved to feel you moving around in there; kicking, squirming and even those hiccups that sometimes seemed would never go away. I do miss that special time when you grew inside me, watching my belly get bigger and bigger with you and seeing the smiles on the faces of others as we all waited for you. I miss how much your Daddy would talk to my tummy knowing you could hear him and the joy of those first kicks even he was able to feel. Now that you are here, I feel relief to finally be ableย  to see you, hear you and touch you. What joy each of these bring us, every movement, every sigh, every little squeak and grunt you make. What a miracle Jesus has made for us, every detail of you is perfect. You are our little blessing and you’ll grow and grow until this small fragile bundle is just a memory. I will miss this tiny you but know you’ll bring us so much more joy as we watch you become the fat funny baby, the playful little girl, the teenager and someday the woman the Lord is making you.

We thank our Heavenly Father for 5 years with our precious Lily Ruth.

What a fun party! I grew up with gnomes…my mother was obsessed with them, too. Love them! In fact, she might even have the book you mentioned. Gnome nudity sounded a bit too familiar…

Jenny, I loved me some Gnomes when I was young too. As many times as Lily has seen the Lady Gnome nudie she just realized that the gnome bosoms weren’t her “ELBOWS”! I think we’ll be ok. ๐Ÿ™‚
