A Bundle of Myrrh

"My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh." Song of Solomon 1:13

Blessed in the Mess

March 12th, 2013 by Aubri

Where sin abounds, Grace much more abounds. I usually don’t see it and sometimes I flat out push it away.

But Grace still happens. When I’m not looking, while our family crowds on the couch, someone inevitably crying, tired or put out, while we sing of His love, just like that, through a few words He blesses me with a little refreshing breath, a drink of living water. And I take it gladly, in unexpected snippets.

“My song is love unknown,
My Savior’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be.
O who am I, that for my sake
My Lord should take, frail flesh and die?”

The Savior doesn’t always feel close, He most times seems far away. Why would he want to hang around this filthy place anyway?!

But here He is. Here in this messy home the King of Heaven comes to love and forgive and give me my daily bread.

“He came from His blest throne
Salvation to bestow;
But men made strange, and none
The longed for Christ would know:
But O! my Friend, my Friend indeed,
Who at my need His life did spend.”

Why, what hath my Lord done?
What makes this rage and spite?
He made the lame to run,
He gave the blind their sight,
Sweet injuries! Yet they at these
Themselves displease, and ’gainst Him rise.”

“In life, no house, no home
My Lord on earth might have;
In death no friendly tomb
But what a stranger gave.
What may I say? Heav’n was His home;
But mine the tomb wherein He lay.

Here might I stay and sing,
No story so divine;
Never was love, dear King!
Never was grief like Thine.
This is my Friend, in Whose sweet praise
I all my days could gladly spend.”

Mine is not the mountain top, but He has come to be with me in the plain.

Thanks be to God for the Grace He gives today.

    Amen.

    Not a mess do I see, but life lived to its fullest in a love-filled and Christ-centered home. May we continue to remind one another of this truth!

    I did, too–otherwise everyone is trying to crawl in with the baby. And it’s easier to see their sweet face.

    However, my second-born was a good bouncer, and scooted the seat right off the table!
