“Here’s to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here’s to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold.” – Author Unknown

We bid farewell to 2010 last night. It’s been a year of blessings and challenges. Many cherished memories and some we’d rather forget. Like the worst January of my life and an emergency room visit for Phil after a beer bottle exploded in his hand! Here are some of the memories we hope to hold.

Photographs

I have a problem. I take TONS of pictures. From the time I first got a camera I’ve taken TONS of pictures.  I never needed a special occasion to take them, I would take them at home by myself or hanging out with my friends somewhere we’d been a 100 times. And digital cameras feed my need to snap away. I don’t have the best memory and for me taking pictures was a way to keep moments, places or people from being forgotten.

Among the millions of pictures I’ve taken there are those that I love looking at. I’m sure you have those too. They make you smile or make you remember a time when things were so different. And sometimes there’s just one that you can’t believe you captured on “film”, one that you would be so sad to loose. For me it’s this one:

My favorite picture from 2007-Sept 2009 (that’s the last time I put a list of them together). Morgan and Walter laughing. I love this moment, this laugh. I don’t remember at all what was so funny, but it must have been good and I snapped my camera at just the right second.

So I thought I’d share my Top 15 Favorite Photos (well from 2007-Sept. 2009) with y’all. There in no particular order, well, yes they are, chronological, not by love.

Mercy

Some days feel like a downward spiral into sin, sin and more sin. My failings as a wife and mother are always in my face and if I stop to take a closer look at things I’m easily overwhelmed with the immensity of how awful I am. I thought for a while that if I could just read my bible more, pray more, be alone for a while or have the chance to go to a bible study around other Christians that I would somehow do better. Better at controlling my temper, have more patience with my babies, not complain and pout as much, be less negative. Of course I knew that as poor miserable sinners we can’t “do better” and will always struggle with sin, but at least maybe we could do a little less sinning right? Well, no. I’m not sure that it works that way.

Assaulting Thoughts

From evlogia

Logismoi

Why is it that women in general, and mothers in particular, seem especially prone to battling negative thoughts?

Logismoi. It is a spiritual battle, you know?

The types of thoughts are legion, but it seems to me that mothers battle these thoughts more than others.
