The Feast of St. Ambrose

December 7: The Feast of St. Ambrose. Since this is one of Martin’s namesakes I wanted to make sure we remember to observe this day. Also, he is a man worth remembering. Being a great orator and preacher Ambrose was called the “Honey tongued doctor.” I came across a cookie recipe in one of my Christmas books with honey as a key ingredient so I had to try it for today. The Ambrosia honey and bee plate I had on hand from Martin’s first birthday party, fitting.

Remembering Advent

December 23, Advent’s last hurrah. The season of Christmas begins tomorrow. We still haven’t had a chance to decorate our tree, I haven’t wrapped a single present and Advent didn’t go at all as I’d planned or hoped, it never does. I’ve had to reevaluate many things this Advent, realize what I need to let go of and what I need to work harder at holding on to. It’s been a struggle. But here we are with a new season on us and the message I need to hear again, today’s Antiphon:

O Emmanuel, king and lawgiver,
desire of the nations, Savior of all people:
Come and set us free, Lord our God.
