April brought Standardized Testing to our school. A first for Lily being in 3rd grade now. I’m sure most of us have strong opinions when it comes to standardized tests, their benefits and their drawbacks. I see both. I’ve never liked the pressure that seems to come with these tests. The excitement induced by teachers around these tests seems to only stress some kids out. Lily is one of these kids. She was so nervous about taking these exams.

The education of our children is a duty Phil and I as parents are charged to oversee. We reject the teaching that it is something we are mandated by God’s Word to take upon ourselves to be the sole teacher of our children, but do believe it is our responsibility to see that they are provided with an education. We believe parents are free to choose how they can best provide that instruction for their children.
Though I thought I would probably homeschool our children waaaay back 100 years ago, Phil and I have decided that for now the best way we can educate our babies is to send them to our local public school.
The Gerhardt Show

I’m so proud of this guy. I really was worried about his going to Kindergarten last Fall. He still had trouble with some of his speach and identifying letters in the Alphabet. I wondered how he would do. Well, I’m not worried anymore. His teacher and his mama and daddy are very pleased with how well he’s doing this year!
School Winter Program
Thursday, December 22nd, 2016
Tuesday was the Winter Program “It’s a Snow Show” at school. I have to say I’m very impressed with the performance, how organized it is and how well the children at the school do. I’m so excited that at this public school they offer not only band but orchestra to kids once they enter 4th and 5th grade. They also have a ‘chorus’ group where the kids learn harmony. I’m hoping our babies can enjoy all that’s offered here.
This program is a pretty huge deal to the school community. I couldn’t believe last year how many parents and family show up for this during the work day. They pack out the place with two performances. I was smarter this year and stayed at the school after I dropped the kids off. The line starts forming an hour before and wraps around the school. I was there plenty early and though I didn’t get right up front I think we did well on the 3rd row.
