September 14th is Holy Cross Day. It is one of the oldest annual commemorations of the Church. You can read about it HERE. The legend states that St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine discovered the true cross Christ died on while on pilgrimage in Jerusalem. I don’t if that’s true and it wouldn’t matter if it were, but I like take advantage of this day to focus on the instrument God used to save us all and point the babies once again to the work of our Savior on that cross.
Above is our special treat for the day, a Monkey Bread Cross. I followed this recipe. It ain’t pretty, but I’m hoping it will be tasty!
Lily wanted a craft for today so I found this one, using the cross template. I was happy to let her do it all by herself. She’s getting very good with using scissors!

Hymns to sing today: Lift High the Cross, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, In the Cross of Christ I Glory, The Royal Banners Forward Go
I put a raisin cross on Lily’s sandwich for school. She liked that.
“Merciful God, Your Son, Jesus Christ, was lifted high upon the cross that He might bear the sins of the world and draw all people to Himself. Grant that we who glory in His death for our redemption may faithfully heed His call to bear the cross and follow Him. Amen.”
