A Bundle of Myrrh

"My beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh." Song of Solomon 1:13

Holy Week At The Parsonage

April 7th, 2012 by Aubri

It’s late, it’s Holy Saturday and I’ve got to get to bed so I can get up for our sunrise service tomorrow, but I thought I’d better jot down some of what we did during Holy Week before Holy Week is over and before I forget what we did this year.

I attempted Resurrection Eggs (see HERE too) this year. We didn’t open them everyday as your supposed to do because I’d forget.  But Lily would remember some days and we’d open one…only one…not all of them …every time. This was hard for Clara and Gerhardt to understand and after a couple melt downs we no longer got to look at all of them before we opened the one for that day. This was fun for them and is something they’ll enjoy as they get older and can begin to better grasp all of the symbols we use.

I managed to get a few crafts together, not much, but the girls love any kind of “craft” especially when glue or glitter are involved. On Wednesday we made these, Judas’ bag of silver.

For lunch on Maundy Thursday I set the table to emphasize the special day.

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19

“In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 19:20

Maundy Thursday supper was Rosemary Flatbread and Lentil soup.

Olives for me and Gerhardt. Mmm.

Our liturgical table was darkened for Good Friday.

Ok, I went with Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns this year.Indulgent? Yes. Good. You bet. I was tired of taking the time to make the traditional buns that have raisins, dried fruit etc and no one really eating them but me. So I fixed that this year. Though they didn’t rise properly so they weren’t “pillowy” as the recipe states they’d be. I’ve got to figure out why I can’t get bread to rise next year and attempt again.

Here’s one very happy Lily indulging herself on chocolate HCBs!

Our traditions continued at our neighbors house, coloring eggs.

And Lily had one more chocolate hot cross bun.

I know I’m probably the only one who thinks the towel under the eggs is so pretty after the eggs are removed…

Good Friday watercolors and a snack.

Blessed Easter to you all!

He is Risen! Alleluia!

Looks wonderful! I admire your energy to do all these crafts with the kids. I’m happy if I get the house straightened up every day (not that Edith is much into crafts yet – if blowing bubbles doesn’t count – but there are lots of other things I could do). As for baking, I’ve learned (the hard way) to make sure the liquid is the right temperature, and to let the dough rise for a long time (at least double in size, maybe even until it starts collapsing). I’m sure you’ll figure it out.
Miss ya’ll! Hopefully we’ll get to see you sometimes soon. And congrats to the new baby!

Thanks Kristina! There’s no energy…it’s just scrapping by and neglecting something else that probably should be done. And yes, blowing bubbles definitely counts. I think my milk temperature was one of the problems this time. And I don’t like to wait longer than the required time for rising since I’m usually in a hurry to get something done. So, I must remember that next time!

We miss y’all too and wish we could see baby Edith in person. We’re also praying you get called to NE! 🙂 Hugs!
