Celebrating Epiphany

January 8th, 2012 by Aubri

Day of Epiphany sunrise

“Brightest and best of the stars of the morning,
Dawn on our darkness and lend us your aid.
Star of the east, the horizon adorning,
Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.”

On Friday we celebrated the beginning of Epiphany. The Wise Men greeted the babies when they woke this morning. They were excited to see that those we had moved around the house throughout Christmas had completed their long journey and found the baby Jesus. We received this book last Christmas from Jan and Stan, I had it put away until today when it was finally time to get it out to read.

We also gave one last gift to the girls (and Gerhardt), a beautiful doll house from Grandma and Grandpa. They love it!

Our glittery gold stars were hung.

And we ate cinnamon sugar crisps for breakfast, shaped crowns (for the Magi) and I used the remaining bits telling the girls they were doves for the Holy Spirit who appears at Jesus’ baptism and the waves that He calmed during the storm.

We had some of our neighbors over for supper that night to celebrate with us and to help us eat the turkey I didn’t get around to cooking for Thanksgiving. It was delicious. *Mom, I pulled it all off once again! Can you believe it?

We had Monkey Bread for our “King’s Cake. Yummy, I’ll say so myself.

And of course hidden inside, the baby Jesus whom our friends Vernon and Leanna found (they were sharing their piece of the cake) and shared the crown and title King and Queen for the night.

After supper there were stories and an Epiphany hymn before bedtime.
