Winter is officially still about six weeks away, but our days are getting colder and darker so to this former Texan, winter is here. Which makes for a really bad time to start trying to lose weight (shoot!), but the best time for Gingerbread cookies, a cup of coffee and cozying up to read good books on the couch!
Yesterday was cold and cloudy. Lily and I went to the library and got some new books to read, then sat and ate our favorite cookies. Mmmm.
We got some of Jan Brett’s books. I love where her illustrations take you. Even with winter all around you feel nice and cozy with something warm and beautiful to wear and something yummy to eat!
Wouldn’t you love to have some wool socks like these? I’ve got one pair from Finland and think I’ll wear them ragged this winter.
The Inuit version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Snow Bears. Here’s Aloo-Ki running for her life!
Jan Brett’s website has some fun things for kiddos, check it out!

I’m glad Jan Brett ends the book with the bears waving kindly to Aloo-Ki, “Goldilocks”. I always wondered what they stood around thinking about after she ran away and felt sorry for Baby Bear who probably needed a friend. Bears that lived in such a cute cottage (or igloo in this version) couldn’t have wanted to eat her right?
bears that wear clothes probably don’t like to eat people…!
Joanna and her grandma used to exchange Jan Brett e-cards. I love those!
