A few weeks ago I asked Lily what kind of birthday party she wanted. She said “a PINK party!”. What little girl doesn’t want a pink party?! Sounded easy to me so I went with it!
Pre-party dancing to “Pink”.
All things Pink!
Strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting. Mmmm! I’ve never made strawberry cake before but as soon as I started to smell it cooking I was sent straight back to my fifth birthday when my Mama made a Strawberry Shortcake cake for me. It’s crazy how smells can do things like that!
I made little pink flowers for table decorations that became bows after the glue wore off…oh well, I thought they were still cute.
For the first time we had little children (other than our own!) coming to Lily’s party so we played a game, Pin the Cherry on the Cupcake. Lily wasn’t too eager to play, or go first, or have anyone looking at her.
The other girls had fun with it.
Phil did too. He lost big though.
Blowing out THREE candles!
Friends! Unfortunately none of them live here…
Lily’s own beach towel from Jan and Stan! She loved it and won’t have to share Clara’s anymore!
Then came Grandma and Grandpa’s gift of dress up clothes and the party really started.
Look at this little lady! I’ll have you know since she got her new look, she won’t even come to the table to eat her Mac-N-Cheese without putting on her necklace and heels.
Senior prom here we come!
What a fun time we had oozing in pink and girliness! Happy Birthday Lily!
How fun! Thank you for recording these wonderful memories so that we can enjoy them so far away. You have a precious family!!
I had another thought. Perhaps you can start a “Hale” tradition of asking what color they want their birthday party, instead of what theme. At least for the girls that might work. Then you can be much more creative like you have been with the pink. I really like the “pin the cherry on the cupcake”. Too cute!
That WOULD be so much easier than figuring out how to pull off some other themes they could come up with. I tried to do a Peter Rabbit party for Lily this year and realized I just didn’t have it in me, energy or money to do it well. So I asked her. I was SO relieved to here her simply say “A pink party!”.
