We’re back from a very relaxing and luxurious road trip across the Mid-West. Our desination was Butler, PA where cousins Weslie and Kristina have been serving a vicarage (well, Weslie, not Kristina she’s been up to other things). We saw a lot of beautiful country and learned many new things like, oh hey, Jefferson City is the capital of Missouri! And since we were going through “Jeff City” we thought we’d take in the sites.
Inside the capital building we were able to explore the “Hands on History” display of what it was like to be a soldier during the Civil War in MO. Clara was raring to go to battle, but Lily wasn’t fighting anyone with her hair looking like that and Gerhardt just kept asking for some shoes. We made quite the army.
And I think First Sgt. Hale would have been kicked out of his regiment for failure to know how to button a coat.
Our first stop was with our friends the Koesters outside of St. Louis MO, but I didn’t get any pictures of our time there! So here’s one from our visit with them 2 years ago….
Look how little everyone was! Clara was very little, about 7 inches and 1 lb and Gerhardt well we’ll just say he was teenie tiny back then.
Onward to Seymour, IN to visit the Lepley family.
We made SMORES over the fire!
Finally we made it to PA, see we were smiling.
Uncle Weslie taught the girls how to fold towels…or was it the other way around?
It was great to spend time with the Odoms again. They we very kind to take care of the babies while Phil and I made a quick overnight getaway into Pittsburgh!
We stayed here in an old mansion turned B&B.
I had to spend some time reading and drinking coffee on this porch. It was just what I needed.
There was a lot to do in Pittsburgh. We did some walking around, down “The Strip” with tons of shops and eateries! Eating was of course a big attraction for us.
No, don’t adjust your monitor, those are french fries and that is coleslaw on this sandwich.
Glorious fries!
Phil is a connoisseur of Phillie Cheese Steak sandwiches so we had to get one of those.
That evening we decided to go see the Pirates play the LA Dodgers that night.
The Pirates won the game. Go Bucks!
Then we hit up an Irish bar for a late supper. This was my supper, Frozen Strawberry Pie and hot tea. I was sick with a sore throat and a cold, this just seemed right.
Phil thought Pittsburgh suited him.
Then we were homeward bound. Back to IN then to IA and finally home.
For more pictures of our trip go here.
Love all the pictures! Looks like y’all had a real good time!
