Celebrating America

September 4th, 2020 by Aubri

July 4: If anything brought out my inner patriot it’s been the past month of turmoil this country has seen. The month of June was so full of shock after shock, nothing seemed surprising anymore…then something would surprise me.

I never really made a huge deal of Independence Day, of course we celebrate it and honor those who have made this possible throughout our history but this year it was so different. I would be intentional and take care to impress upon the babies just how special our country is. I used the whole month of June to read snipits of American history and living history books to them. We memorized a bit of the Declaration of Independence and learned more about our national anthem. And all of this I will continue to put before them because I see how necessary it has become in our day.

I wondered what to expect of the 4th this year with COVID and all the upheaval, how many would be out celebrating the day. I was happily surprised and relieved to see what might have been the most fireworks we’ve ever witnessed living here. It cheered me greatly, it made me proud to see. As Americans we truly do have so much to celebrate or at least to be very thankful for.
