Back in August we finally finished up the 3rd Quarter of our Mystery of History weekend lessons. This brought us up to the 6th century BC. This was a very last minute celebration for us since I wanted to jump right into Quarter 4. But we pulled off some fun.

Esther was kind enough to make our “Hanging Gardens of Babylon” that we hung from the ceiling. We served out usual Mediterranean fair or homemade flat bread and cucumbers, I know, I pulled all the punches. And with a nod to Confucius we had Gen Tso Chicken AKA “chicken rice soy sauce.”

We had to run a “Marathon” of course. After reading about Pheidippides and the Battle of Marathon it was required. But it was a scorcher of a day and the kids didn’t last long. I don’t think any of them ran close to 25 miles.

Also on the “Events” list was a javelin contest, a play and a music recital to commemorate life during the Golden Age of Athens.

And for dessert, crepes or “Scrolls” representing the Prophet Ezekiel. These went down better than I imagine actual scrolls would have had we eaten them.
