This year for his 8th birthday, Gerhardt requested a “Nature” party. Any kind and every kind of thing Nature. Easy and fun to plan!
An easy cake with Woodland animals ready to party! But this cake didn’t start off so nicely….
Uncharacteristically Martha of all the babies, got a hold of this one. She was mad at me for getting on to her for something so I think that was part of the motive to dig into this cooling cake while Mama was out of the room. No worries. Just a whole lotta frosting to fill in the sink holes!
We invited one friend over this year, a good buddy from school. This was a surprise for Gerhardt who didn’t know his friend was coming until he knocked on the door.
Our “game” was a nature walk. I provided each “team” with a bag of bug containers, nets, pencils and notebooks to help them be the best Naturalists they could be.
This was one I had never seen. We turned to Google to help identify it. Though it looks like a huge hairy ant, it’s actually in the wasp family. A Cow Killer. Yes, a cow killer or AKA Velvet Ant. The female does not have wings but they all deliver a pretty good sting if given the chance!
A shaving kit from Grandma and Grandpa provided some after party entertainment. An audience for Gerhardt’s first shave.
