For the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, June 24th, we had a “Baptism Party” to celebrate the gift of Holy Baptism. I think this might be the beginning of a new tradition at our house.
For years I’ve tried to observe each of the babies’ baptism days one at a time. We have a short little ceremony and a special snack. But I always forget some of the babies’ days, the ones baptized in the Fall when life is busier. So I’m thinking we might start remembering all the baptism days on this one day, on the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. Perhaps we will sing a verse from each of the babies’ baptismal day hymns to mark each one.
I’ve had this book for a while but was waiting for an opportunity to give it to the babies. What a great little book. The hymn it is based on is one of our favorites. And the illustrations are lovely.
“Almighty God, through John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, You once proclaimed salvation. Now grant that we may know this salvation and serve You in holiness and righteousness all the days of our life; through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.”
