School’s out for Summer. Here’s what I’ve planned to keep this Crazy Ship sailing smoothish.

I saw this BORED poster on Pinterest a while back and liked the idea. So I’ve posted ours to the fridge along with some helpful ideas to inspire the babies. When they come to me whining about being bored I point them to the fridge.

Now the big girls think it’s “fun” to be bored getting all dramatic with the “I’m Booored. Oh yeah!” and running to the list.

I’ve made a seating chart for the family meal times so I don’t have to hear the bickering over who gets to sit by Mama.

And I’m keeping the chores at a minimum right now. Once we get these everyday jobs down I’ll add more.

On top of the individual chores each of them have, all the babies do have group jobs such as picking up everything all the time whenever Mom and Dad say so.

And I finally got smart with assigning a Kitchen Helper each week. Instead of the Parade of the Kitchen Chairs to the counter when EVERYONE decides they want to help Mama, I’m only allowing ONE kid in the kitchen with me to help with the cooking and unloading the dishwasher. If it’s not your week, you’re out of luck.

Also I’m working on making them memorize things. Each week a new Bible verse. If they get 5 verses memorized this Summer they win a trip to the Mini-Mart to pick out a treat. I’m also going to have Lily memorize some poetry and start reading a Psalm out loud during Bible Time.

I found a good list of short verses for little kids to memorize HERE (free pdf).

I’m still figuring out what our daily schedule will look like. Loosely it’s like this:

7:30-830 – Breakfast
8:30 – Breakfast Cleanup
9:00-9:30 Mom workout?? Ha ha ha! And kids exercise some way as well.
9:30-10:30 – read together, craft, park or library
11:00 – Prep lunch
11:30-12:00 Lunch
12:30 – 1:00 – Girls IXL and Memory Work
1:00-3:30 – Quiet Time with shows – Tuesdays: Learning Show Thursdays: Language Shows Sunday: Bible Show
3:30-4:00 – Snack Time
5:00-6:00 – Supper
6:30 – Ready for Bed
7:00 – Littles in bed. Bible Time for others.

Tuesdays – Library days. Check out one fun book and one learning book
Fridays – Family Game or Movie night….maybe.

Other things we’ll work on this Summer:

1.Girls will learn how to cook some things all on their own. Probably Muffins, Pizza and Mac. Ooo La la!
2. I will start crocheting these Freezer Pop Holders. Maybe they’ll be done by the time Fall starts.
3. Help Dad in the garden.

Shoot, thanks for reminding me. I gotta find Dandelion Wine…

We spent our first summer vacation day with a child who spent 2 1/2 hours (going on 3 now…) complaining about doing 30 minutes of piano practice 🙂
