Gerhardt got to help me with our Pumpkin Moonshines this year.

I laugh at myself for having the house mostly picked up, the kitchen straight and all ready for the big girls to get home and for Halloween to bust our seems. I know the storm of bouncing off the walls, trying to prepare to go out, getting everyone dressed was coming, I thought I was ready, I wasn’t.

Chaos happens and every year it gets more chaotic, there was crying and yelling but finally we were ready! And happily this year Phil got to go with us! Doesn’t he look thrilled? It’s been two years since he was able to join our Trick-or-Treating fun due to work and since this was also the first year in a couple years when a Mom hadn’t been here to help, I was very glad!

IMG_1972The girls were the Fairies of the Four Seasons. Lily had that idea after we read Ella Bella Ballerina and Cinderella where these four fairies appear in the story and I pointed out that they were like my four girls. My mom was so kind to put together costumes for them, tutus and such beautiful crowns! Clara is Summer, Lily Winter, Esther Spring and Mercy Fall.

IMG_1971The boys were Jake and Cubby from Jake and the Neverland Pirates, costumes by yours truly. Gerhardt’s tears brought to you by mean old Mama who wouldn’t let him put a coat on for the picture.

And that’s another thing! We know it will be chilly for Halloween, but so far we’ve lucked out on how cold it’s been. Not this year. It was cold. So after all the work we put in to costumes, the babies ended up having to wear coats. Next year I think we’ll just do fun Halloween HATS for trick-or-treating!

We hit some houses then headed home to give out our candy.

We survived! And yes, we’ll do it all again next year.

You forgot the part about raiding the kids’ candy for chocolate 🙂

  2. Katy says:

“Mom, what happened to all my peanut M&Ms?”

I always love your kids’ costumes. We had a ninja kitty, alligator, bat, and monkey at our house. My oldest made her whole costume herself. And Michael took them out for the first time, while I made our traditional Halloween supper of pigs in a blanket, hot apple cider, popcorn, bacon-wrapped dates, apples and vanilla cream cheese dip.

The wind kept blowing our jack o lanterns out, though

They all look so cute! The girls are beautiful fairy princesses and the pirates look so handsome! Poor “Jake” I hate he didn’t have a real tropical island to trick-or-treat on! The pumpkins are great- y’all are really getting accomplished at carving! 🙂 Fun pictures, thanks for posting them all!

  4. Kristi says:

Nobody was going to be bobbing for apples this year. You’d come out, looking like a frozen popsicle.

    Awesome costumes!

Rebekah, I CAN’T STOP EATING THE KIT KATS!!!! And for some reason this year the Nerds or Nerves as Lily calls them, which is an improvement from ‘Erds of last year.

Katy, I think next year I’ll be staying home if Phil can take the babies out. I thought about it this year, at least to be able to straighten up and get supper ready, such a good idea. I just get so eager to watch the kiddos get candy and see all the other costumes out there. I love your menu yum!

Mom weren’t they cute!? And I’m sure you mean by TEXAS by “tropical island” right?

Kristi, I think that is exactly what Gerhardt is thinking in the apple bobbing picture, ha ha!

  6. I love, love, LOVE the photos of Gerhardt with the pumpkin! Those are fantastic!

We had a whole whopping 37F for temps on Friday night – at least the kids had costumes I could stick a full snow suit (or I guess jacket and long johns this year) under! Living in MN we have to do that…. sigh.

I love your costume ideas! I’m still trying to talk my son into something like the Pastor costume you had last year….

    Thanks for sharing,
    Lea

PS we use the big glow sticks in our pumpkins – wind? no problem! And yes, we found that out the hard way. 😉

Lea, glow sticks in the pumpkins is a great idea! Oh I’d really thought of repeating the pastor costume on Ephy, that one was a classic.
